Roger H. Cerne, 85 years old, passed away July 13, 2026. He was born in Cleveland, Mar. 18, 1941. Roger graduated from Collinwood High School and then attended and graduated from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland with a BS degree in Management Science. He joined the Harris-Intertype’s Cottrell Division in Westerly, Rhode Island in 1963 as an industrial engineer. He returned to Cleveland and accepted a role as an account executive at Merrill Lynch. He was then recruited to join the Case Alumni Association as the executive director of the Case Fund. During this time, he increased the Association’s assets from $300,000 to over $42 million. In 2013 he was awarded the first Lifetime Service Award from the Case School of Engineering. In 2012 he continued with Case as an executive advisor to the Dean of the Case School of Engineering and stayed in this position until his passing. He was inducted in the Collinwood High School Hall of Fame in 2025. Husband of Judy Cerne. Father of children, Cheryl Sicker (David). Grandfather of Bryan and Grace Sicker and great-grandfather of Lenna Sicker. Brother of Frank D. Cerne. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Eleanor Cerne. Thomas A. Fink Sr. 86 years old, passed away July 6, 2026. Erna Futterer (nee Oswald), 95 years old, passed away June 17, 2026. Erna was born in Slovenia, the eldest of five children. While living in a Displaced Persons camp in (southern) Austria after the war, she met and married her late husband, Stephen. Erna studied professional housekeeping, cooking, and baking while living in the camp. She then worked for a physician in Austria. While in the camp they welcomed their son Stephen. Their family legally emigrated to the USA, through Ellis Island and to Cleveland, Ohio where their second son, Edward was born. Erna learned the English language and earned her US citizenship. She made beautiful meals, wonderful sweets such as Strudels, Potica, and Hungarian layer cakes. Her gardens were filled with beautiful flowers which she would divide and pass to her daughter-in-law and her granddaughter. They have Lilac plants that originated with Erna’s Mother, Paula. Stephen was a home builder and Erna assisted him in designing and selling the homes. Erna and Stephen enjoyed dancing Polkas and Waltzes at Saxenheim, Gottscheer Club, German Central, Slovenian Home, and Hofbrauhaus. Erna is survived by her sons Stephen (Rose Ann), Edward (Jane); Granddaughter, Alyssa Futterer (Eric Wilson, Brooklyn, and Mila). John “Buddy” G. Kovacic, 70 years old. Buddy was born May 20, 1955, as the son of the late John V. Kovacic and Rose (nee Hribar) Kovacic. Buddy grew up in Euclid, where he graduated from Euclid High School. He built his career with UPS in the Cleveland area, from which he retired. A man of simple pleasures and deep roots in Northeast Ohio. Buddy spent his leisure time with friends and family outdoors-fishing, hunting and cheering and bemoaning his Cleveland sports teams. He is survived by his sister, Deborah (nee Kovacic) Corn (Dr. Robert); and his nephews, Jesse (Kelly Albin), David and Michael (Lauren) Corn. Robert “Bob” John Kramer Jr., 80 years old, passed away May 25, 2026. He was born Dec. 15, 1945 as the son of the late Robert and Mary Kramer Sr. He was the oldest of four siblings. Husband of Dolores. Father of Dannielle (Antonio) and Jeannette (Bill). Grandfather of Christopher, Diego, and Hannah. He is also survived by siblings Jim (Kathy), Pete, Pat (Bob) Latham, brother-in-Law John (Mary) Baker. Uncle and great-uncle of many. He was employed at General Motors for 45 years until his retirement. He was also a gifted carpenter, a skill he picked up as a teenager working alongside his Uncle Dick Kramer; and a devout Catholic. James R. Kraynak (aka “Jim”, “JR”, “JK”, “Ron” or “Ronnie Honey”), passed away on June 16, 2026. Husband of Audrey. Father of Erin (Jeff) Fromwiller and Kara (Michael) Sygula. Grandfather of Evan (Jordan), Alayna, and Cade Fromwiller, Madison and Emma Sygula. Preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Mary (nee Spisak) Kraynak and his sister Susan. Jim graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Bowling Green State University (BGSU), the latter in Educational Administration. He began his professional career teaching English and coaching football at Otsego High School and ended his career teaching English at several high schools in the Akron System. Most of his professional career was spent in college admissions, initially in the admissions’ offices of Urbana College and BGSU. He also served as Director of Admissions at Kent State, Youngstown State and Purdue Universities.
Rev. Robert J. “Bob” Kropac, 70 years old, passed away July 5, 2026. He was born July 18, 1955, in Cleveland. Fr. Kropac was educated at St. Mary School, Painesville, Oh.; Borromeo High School and Borromeo College, Wickliffe; and the Pontifical American College in Rome, Italy. He was ordained a priest by Bishop James Griffin for service to the diocese of Cleveland on Jan. 16, 1982, in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. His first assignment was as parochial vicar of Holy Trinity Parish, Bedford. He also served as master of ceremonies, Auxiliary Bishop James Lyke. In June 1984 he was transferred to serve as a pastoral member of St. Mary Magdalene Parish, Willowick. He also served as a member of the Diocesan Music Commission at this time and a liaison between the Diocesan Pastoral Liturgy Commission and the Diocesan Liturgy Office staff from 1989-1990. He was appointed to serve a five-year term as director of the Diocesan Worship Commission on July 1, 1986. Fr .Kropac served as director of the diocesan Office for Pastoral Liturgy 1990-1995. He was appointed pastor of St. Henry Parish, Cleveland, June 1, 1995. He was transferred to serve as parochial vicar of St. Gabriel Parish, Concord, Jan 1, 2008. Fr. Kropac was appointed pastor of St. Wendelin Parish, Cleveland on July 16, 2012. He served as also as pastor of St. Peter Parish, Cleveland, July 30, 2012, Oct. 13, 2019. He was appointed administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Cleveland Feb. 20, 2023. He is survived by his brother, Don. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. Kropac and Carol Ann (nee Fitzgerald). Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mary Church, Painesville, OH., followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at a future date at, respectively, St. Wendelin and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Helen J. Leers (nee Ulle), 84 years old, passed away Apr. 4, 2026. Helen was born and raised in Painesville, Ohio, along with two other sisters. Wife of former husband, Don. Dorothy Ostroska Pryately Andrews, 96 years old. Dorothy was born on Nov. 28, 1928 as the daughter of the late Margaret (nee Slavec) and Joseph Ostroska Bač, (Republic of) Slovenia. The family moved to Pittsburgh, PA. in 1929 where her brothers, Joseph and Frank, were born. The family then moved to Cleveland where Dorothy grew up. She attended St. Vitus Elementary School and St. Francis High School, graduating at age 16. She helped run the family business (known as “The Norwood Café”) and was active in many Slovenian American organizations. In 1950, at age 20 years old, she received a B.A. in Education from Miami University (OH.). Dorothy taught 2nd grade in Conneaut, OH, and then married John Pryately. After John’s death in 1966, she re-entered the workforce to provide for her four children. She worked as a teacher at St. Mary’s School and then at the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. She received an MA in Education from Wright State University, Class of 1981. Dorothy then married Jim Andrews (dec.). They moved to NC. Dorothy worked as an editor for journals published by Duke University. Member, St. Mary Magdalene Parish and Peak City Singers. At the time of her death, she was living in Silver Treasures near Fleming Island. Mother of Margaret Pryately, John (Nancy) Pryately, Christine Pryately, and Virginia (Jim) Collin. Grandmother of great-grandmother of many. s as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends and family who will miss her dearly. Janet Marie O’Neill, 86 years old, passed away July 8, 2026. Janet was born in Cleveland to the late Matthew and Ann (née Muzinich) Norsic. Wife of the late Clifford F. O’Neill. Mother of James (Cindy) O’Neill, Dennis (Michelle) O’Neill, William O’Neill, Robert O’Neill, Thomas O’Neill and the late Kenneth O’Neill. Also survived by her brother, Gerald (Charlotte) Norsic. Laurel Pike, 88 years old, passed away June 25, 2026. She was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio as the daughter of the late George and Gerry (nee Gardner) Kebrdle. Laurel was the office manager for R. L. Pike Industrial for 28+ years. She also worked for Sears Roebuck as a salesclerk for over eight years, and at Dollar Tree. Member, of St. Mary Parish (Painesville), American Slovenian Club and the Fairport Harbor Senior Center. She is survived by her son, William Wayne Zampini and her brother, Jim (Coleen) Kebrdle. William (Bill) Segulin, 86 years old, passed away June 26, 2026. Bill was born Feb. 29, 1940 as the son of the late Gasper and Theresa. He was the youngest of six children. Husband of the late Michelina (“Mickey”). Father of William (Jill), Mary Rose, David (Christina) and James. Grandfather of Cassandra, Katherine, Maxwell (Harley), Nikola, William, Helena and Maria. Also survived by his twin brother, Richard. Bill and Rich were the first recorded twins born on Leap Year in Cuyahoga County. John Urbas, 89 years old, passed June 15, 2026. John was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Cleveland to the late Frank Urbas and Mary (Kuhar). John worked at LeWayne’s Flowers & Greenhouse for many years. Veteran, US Military. He then moved to Dorset where he had many animals, goats, rabbits, and more. We brought him home to the area 16 years ago and he was in a nursing home until his death. He graduated from Mentor High along with his 10 brothers and sisters. John is survived by siblings James (Donna) Urbas, Raymond (Cheryl) Urbas, Rosie Derk and Margaret Pancher, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Norman J. Zahler, Jr., 82 years old, passed away June 21, 2026. He was born July 22, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio. Norm graduated, respectively, from St. Joseph High School and Cooper School of Art. Veteran, he served in the U.S. States Army after being drafted during the Vietnam era and later built a career of more than three decades with the United States Postal Service. Husband of Margaret (“Margo”). Father of Thomas, John (Melissa “Missy”), Robert, Michael, and David. Grandfather of Kaylee and Dakota; and great-grandfather of Ronan. He is also survived by siblings James, Marge, and Mary Clare. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lucille, and his sister, Lucille (“Bunny”). Helen Putz Chadey, 96 years old. Wife of the late Henry Frank Chadey. Helen was born July 25, 1929, Rock Springs, WY., as the daughter of Slovenian immigrants John and Johanna (nee Starman) Putz. She was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Rock Springs High School and the University of Wyoming. She was a dedicated schoolteacher and taught in Michigan and Wyoming. Member, Holy Spirit Catholic Community, Wyoming Retired Teachers Association, Sweetwater County Historical Society, Wyoming Historical Society, and Kappa Delta Alumnae Chapter. Mother of Katherine Chadey (Robert Lien), Mary Johanna Chadey, Jeanne Chadey Babcock; her daughter-in-law, Lynne Chadey Peabody (Mark Peabody); grandmother of nine. Aunt and great aunt of many. Marija Rebrica Glavac, 93 years old, Lemont, IL., passed away June 12, 2026. She was born Gornja Bistrica, Slovenia, Jan. 28, 1933. Wife of the late Ignac. In Dec. 1955, Marija and Ignac legally emigrated to the USA through Ellis Island. Mother of Mary Beth Glavac, John Glavac, and Joan (Roger) Wroblewski; son-in-law, Dave Prasek (deceased), spouse of her late daughter, Rosemary Prasek. Grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of six. Also preceded in death by her son, Marjan Glavac; daughter, Rosemary Prasek; mother, Marija Rebrica; sister, Darinka (Tony) Tkalec); and brother, Ignac Rebrica (Ivanka). Louis “Lou” Albert Kirn, 96 years old, passed away June 17, 2026. Lou was born Oct. 20, 1930 in Limestone Township, Upper MI. Peninsula. He was the son of Slovenian immigrant Louis Joseph and Christine Rose (nee Knaus) Kirn, a first-generation Slovenian American. He grew up in Traunik, MI., a Slovenian settlement south of Marquette, MI, where he attended the town’s two-room schoolhouse and spent much of his youth helping his grandparents on their farm. Veteran, U.S Air Force, 1951-to-1955 as a radar mechanic in Alaska. Husband of the late Donna Mae (nee Graham). Lou spent his career in manufacturing and manufacturing management. He worked for working Burroughs Electronics: in Michigan, California, Brazil, England, and New Jersey. After leaving Burroughs in 1982, the family relocated to North Carolina, where Lou joined Data General and later EMC/Dell. He was a licensed private pilot, flying and owning several single-engine planes. Father of Krystn Messer (Robert), and Lora Rinaldi (David). Grandfather of Matthew George, Danielle George, Kaiti Freeman, Stephanie Messer, Sydney George, Boston Rinaldi, Providence Rinaldi, and Haven Rinaldi. Also preceded in death by daughter Lisa George, his brother, Robert Kirn; and nephews, Robert and Richard Kirn. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Joseph Paul Kochevar, 93 years old, passed away June 17, 2026, in Utah. He was born in Mar. 18, 1933, in Spring Glen, Utah, the son of the late Joseph William and Elva Kochevar. Paul was the grandson of Slovenian immigrants who came through Ellis Island before settling in the coal-mining communities of Carbon County. Brother of Lew, Don, and Bruce. As young boys they explored the hills, hunted, and fished. He was elected as student president at Eagle Rock High School in Glendale, CA. and graduated as a valedictorian of his class. He later attended Brigham Young University. Husband of the late Jeanine (nee Greenwood). Father of Denise Wade (Mark), Diane Del Toro, Dawn Bernardo (Tony), Carolyn DeMill (Jed), Michael Kochevar (Kristen), and Scott Kochevar (Kristie); grandfather of 26 and great-grandfather of 73. For nearly four decades, he served students and teachers in the Jordan School District as a mathematics teacher, vice principal, and principal. He influenced lives of thousands of students at West Jordan Junior High School, the original Bingham High School in Copperton, Butler Junior High School, Hillcrest High School, and Indian Hills Middle School. Member, Latter Day Saints of Christ. Also survived by siblings Bruce Kochevar (Karalee); JoAnn Handley; his sisters-in-law, JoAnn Robertson, Celia Kochevar, Afton Greenwood, and Susan Stott; and his brothers-in-law, Gerald (Jeannie) Greenwood and Stephen (Doris) Greenwood. Alojz Mahne, 87 years old, passed away July 3, 2026 in Australia. Alojz was born in Hrušica, Slovenia, Dec. 30, 1938. Terezija, “Theresa” “Reska” Marcic (nee Vlasic), 93 years old, passed away June 1, 2026. Reska was born July 3, 1932, Kraska Vas, Slovenia. During WWII, her family’s life was forced into labor in Germany. The family finally legally emigrated to the USA in 1950, settling in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, IL. Wife of the late Ferinand. Mother of Lilly and Socrates Capoyianes, (grandchildren Nicholas (Diane) Hudson & Lucas, Alexander (Ashley) Olivia and Finn; Christopher (Lauren) Leonardo; Ferdinanda Marcic and Kevin Loftus, (grandchildren Anna, Otto, Finn, and Tully; Catherine and Gerald Joyce, (grandchildren Claire, Brigitte, and Emma); and Brigitta and Steven Brostrom (grandchild Freia). Also survived by sibling Angela Balaker and Vincent Vlasic. Also preceded in death by her parents, Matija and Angela Vlasic; and siblings Mary Kranjec, Stanko and Frank Vlasic. Frank Mikolich, 95 years old, passed away July 5, 2026. Frank was born Jan. 5, 1931 in Creighton Mine, Ontario, son of Maria and Frank Mikolich. The family took much joy in the Slovenian community was a part of. Frank and friends started the Pickerel Fishing Club, which he was President. He had a 45-year career at General Motors, St. Catharines. Frank enjoyed gardening, fishing, polka music and traveling. He was a Scout Leader, volunteering at the Canadian Hearing Society (Niagara). Husband of Mary. Father of Donald (Sarah) Mikolich, Deanna (David) Hammel, and the late Lisa. Grandfather of James, Adam Mikolich, and Sophie Hammel. Family and friends were received at Tallman Funeral Home with a funeral service in the chapel followed by a private internment.
Margaret “Marge” Loretta (nee Bratkovic) Nuttall, 94 years old, passed away June 29, 2026. Marge was born in Kansas City, KS. Nov. 25, 1931 as the daughter of the late Frank Bratkovic and Antonia (nee Luzar), both Slovenian immigrants. She attended St. Anthony’s School. Marge attended school, Lamar Junior College, to become a secretary. Wife of the late Gordon. Nuttall. Mother of Lisa (Michael) Kraft, Gail (Joe) Sindelar, Gordon (Karen), Dana (Michael) Kelleher, Kerry (Craig) Dehning, and Monica (Jerry) Boyd. Grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 22. Marge returned to college to take classes in music. After receiving an associate degree and teaching certificate from Metropolitan State College, and then a master’s degree, she taught music for more than 20 years: employed at Littleton Public Schools, including 16 years at Franklin Elementary School. Marcella Rooney (nee Zollar), 93 years old, Duluth, MN., passed away June 16, 2026. Marcella was born July 16, 1932, the seventh child of the late Anton and Julia (nee Stepan) Zollar. She graduated, respectively, from Tower Soudan High School and the College of St. Scholastica with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Throughout her nursing career she worked at the Soudan, Virginia, and Ely Bloomenson Hospitals. Wife of the late Jerome Rooney. Member, St. Martin’s and St. John’s Parishes. Member also of KSKJLife (aka American Slovenian Catholic Union), Nelson-Jackson American Legion Post 245 Auxiliary and the Old Settler’s Club. Also preceded in death by her son, Timothy; son-in-law, Matthew Yernatich; and siblings, Joseph, Robert, Jack and Edward Zollar, Dorothy Zollar, Ruth Gottlieb, Gertrude Vesel, Rose Zollar and Terese Moraski. Joanne L. Rupar, 84 years old, Sheboygan, WI., passed away May 30, 2026, at her home. She was born in Sheboygan on July 6, 1941, to the late Joseph and Pauline (nee Virant) Rupar, Slovenian immigrants. Joanne attended local schools in Sheboygan. She then went to college in Lemount, IL, earning a degree in education. She was an art teacher at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee for 20+ years. Member, Ss. Cyril & Methodius Parish, KSKJLife, the choir at Ss. Cyril/Methodius, church, and Sheboygan Symphony Chorus. Joanne enjoyed art, music, playing the organ, and cooking. She also loved her Slovenian heritage, especially the music. Survived by many cousins, other relatives, and friends. Also preceded in death by her siblings, Jerry Rupar and Jackie Schmidbauer. She sang with the USPEH choir locally and in Slovenia and also participated in their local Slovenian dance group. She loved baking, winning third place in 2011 in the National Potica contest.
Mary Stueber (nee Germ), 98 years old, passed away June 7, 2026. Mary was born July 19, 1927, as the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (nee Tratar) Germ in Sheboygan, WI. She graduated from Central High School. Wife of the late William Stueber. Mary was employed at several nursing homes in Sheboygan and Port Washington. Member of KSKJ, SUA (Slovenian Union of America) Branch 1, and Red Hats. Mother of Susan Stadtmueller, Peter (Laurie) Stueber, and Jolenne (Jim) Klunck. Grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of 23 and great-great-grandmother of two. Sister-in-law Ruth Neisius. Margaret Taylor (nee Kramer), 64 years old, passed away July 10, 2026, after an eight-year fight with lung cancer. Preceded in death by her father, John D. Kramer, M.D. Wife of Patrick J.D. Taylor. Mother of Daniel (Carey), Margot, Michael (Mary Alyce), Andrew (Lauryn), and Katherine; granddaughter S. Grandmother of Shay Margaret Taylor, her mother, Joan Kramer; and siblings James Kramer (Mary), Devitt Kramer (Julia), Karen Beringer (Don), Molly Scantling (Dave), Michael Kramer, and Ellen Seder (Scott). Margaret was born on Nov. 4, 1961. She graduated from, respectively, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and College of the Holy Cross, Class of 1984 with a degree in Economics. She then earned an MBA at Boston University. She began her career at Bank of New England, then Arthur D. Little and Wachovia. Volunteer and president, Parents Association of The Westminster School. Adelia M. Verakis (nee Pleskovich), 89 years old, passed away June 26, 2026. Adelia was born in Strabane, Pand spent most of her life in Canonsburg, PA. She enjoyed a long career, 40+ years, with McGraw-Edison, later Cooper Industries, where she served as a Sales Manager. She loved sewing, cooking and baking for family and friends, and keeping a warm, welcoming home. She was deeply proud of her Slovenian heritage and the traditions and values she carried throughout her life. Member, St. Patrick Parish, and then St. André Bessette Parish in Amesbury, MA. Survived by her daughter, Lisol V. Milliren (Richard A. Cimino). Grandmother of Carly Milliren (Fred Zagranis), of Amesbury; and great-grandson, Finn Zagranis. Sister of Beverly J. Rosselle. Preceded in death by her husband Terrence E. Verakis, in 2015, and parents, Mary (nee Tomsic) Pleskovich and Frank Pleskovich. Visitation was at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home. Thomas Joseph Yengich Jr., 84 years old, passed away July 15, 2026, at the age of 84. Thomas was born Apr. 13, 1942, Highland Boy, Utah, the son of the late Thomas and Viola Yengich, of Slovenian descent. Veteran, U.S. Army. United States Army. Husband of the late Rosalie “Rose” Tangaro. Also preceded in death by siblings Patricia Yengich Walton, Thomas Yengich, and Richard Yengich. Survived by his children, Debbie Clifford (Bill) and Tommy Yengich (Taylor); grandchildren, Dustin Hatch, Terhan Yengich (Dani), Zack Clifford (Austin), and Stephen Yengich (Tiara); five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. Tyler Bennett Zak, 39 years old, of Raleigh NC. Son of Sherry VanDeweel Wood, (Carl), Zachary Zak (dec), (Victoria, Joe).
