Obituaries – January 2026

Janet M. Bealko (nee Manning), 82 years old, passed away Nov. 26, 2025. Janet was born June 8, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio. Wife of the late Steven. Mother of Laura Bishop (deceased), Steve “Butch” (Julie), Scott (deceased) (Diana Payne), and Bill (Colleen). Grandmother of Jacquelyn, Stephanie, Amanda (Jon), Christopher, Miranda, Brian (Julie), Scotty; and great-grandmother of Miley, Jonathan Jr., Jacob, Grace, and Cooper. Sister of Dave Manning, and John Manning (deceased) (Judy). Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at Ss. Robert and William Church, where the family and friends were received one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Burial was at All Souls Cemetery. All arrangements were handled by Brickman Funeral Home. 

Virginia Mary Bradac (nee Vrh), 90 years old, passed away Dec. 7, 2025. Virginia was born on Aug. 26, 1935, in Cleveland to the late Jacob and Carolyn (nee Plecnikar) Vrh. Her artistic talents blossomed early and continued to flourish throughout her life and brought her great joy. She enjoyed drawing, creating art, crocheting, and sewing. Other passions were cooking and baking. Mother of Debra Lash, Edward (Caterina) Bradac, and Patty Smith. Grandmother of six and great-grandmother of three.  Preceded in death by her husband, William Bradac. A Graveside Service was held at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio. 

Robert “Bob” Calic, 82 years old, passed away Nov. 16, 2025. Bob was employed at Parker Hannifin, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. Bob coached youth football and youth baseball and supported Wickliffe School’s Sports Teams. Member, Wickliffe Hall of Fame. Husband of Patricia (nee Salomon). Father of Chris (Dawn), Sam (Anne), and Todd. Grandfather of Lexie Shiplett (Alex), Sammy Calic, Marco Lovejoy (Jessica), and great-grandfather of Natalie and Mikayla Lovejoy. All services were private.  

Donald A. Dodick, 79 years old, passed away Dec. 2, 2025, from complications of a stroke. Son of the late Anthony and Angeline (nee Dembowski) Dodick. Don was born on Apr. 18, 1946, in Bay City,MI. He graduated from Visitation High School and then earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University. In 1968, the family purchased Monitor Lanes. The Dodick family is originally from Slovenia and Don could even speak some Slovenian. A favorite pastime was polka music, especially Slovenian style of polka music, and Slovenian folk music and singing. Don made annual trips to Cleveland for polka festivals. He was also a devout Catholic. Member, Corpus Christi Parish and Loyal Order of Moose. Father of Christian (Kay) Dodd. Grandfather Joshua Dodd. Sibling Richard (Jeannie) Dodick, Tony Dodick, Jr., and Rick (Carla) Dodick. Uncle of many. Also preceded in death by his uncle, Louie Dodick; and aunts, Pauline LaPointe, Virginia Tobin, Pearl Vasher, and Patricia Christie. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at Corpus Christi Church followed by private committal at Calvary Cemetery. 

John Francis Gorsek, 92 years old. Husband of the late Dorothy (nee Topp). Father of John (Judy), Michael (Vickie), Kathryn Bretz (William), and Diane. Grandfather Sara Crooks (Justin), Kimberly, Mary, Gina Gorsek (Jason Jette), Anthony (Tanesha), Jesse (Leanne Kennedy), Nicolas Binfield, and Marina Binfield; and great-grandfather of Elliot Crooks and Alice Crooks. Son of the late John Girsek Sr., and Pauline (nee Bizyak). Brother of Joan Cifranic (James, deceased). Brother-in-law of Beverly Harriman (Gerald). Uncle and great uncle of many.  Veteran, U.S. Navy, Korean War. After high school, John spent four years aboard aircraft carriers and destroyers. After honorable discharge, he availed himself of the G.I. Bill, becoming an engineer; he advanced his education at Western Michigan and Baldwin-Wallace.  He became a truck cab designer for the White Motor Company. He was extremely proud of his Slovenian heritage. Visitation and memorial service were at Chambers Funeral Home followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park.

Frank Horvath, 62 years old, passed away Dec. 7, 2025. Frank was born Feb. 10, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio. Frank was the son of Raymond and Hazel (nee Henry). Husband of Melissa (nee Friedel). Father Lauren, Frank, Jr. (Melissa), Fallon, and Leo. Grandfather of Freya. Sibling Kim, Venetia, Stephanie, Kirk, and Erica. Visitation and closing prayers were at Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center. 

Marie A. Klun (Bonnie), White Bear Lake, MN. Marie was born in Ely, MN. Her deep Slovenian roots grounded her, and she took great pride in sharing the traditional foods, stories, and customs of her heritage with the generations. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved, Charles (Chuck); her parents, Anton and Rose Kozar; and siblings, Rose Scott, Jeanette Steinart, Dolores (Dollie) Maki, and Kenneth (Kenny) Kozar. Mother of Michael (Vicki), David (Linda), Thomas, and Kristin Ott (Bart); grandmother of six; and great-grandmother of five. Sister of Leone DeBernardi. A private Mass and burial will take place at a later date.

Ann Korosec, 98 years old, passed away Nov. 29, 2025. Ann was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1958, Ann began her career with Sheffield Bronze Paint Corporation as a personal secretary. She remained employed with the company for 65 years until her retirement at the age of 96. Mother of Joe Korosec (Linda) and her daughter Jeri-Ann Shoda. Grandmother Elizabeth Shoda (Nelda Mattison). Preceded in death by husband Joseph Korosec and son John Korosec. Member, Euclid Vets Auxiliary. A Visitation was held at Brickman Brothers Funeral Home. 

Elaine Krych (nee Blatnik), 88, passed away Dec. 9, 2025. Wife of the late Richard. Mother of Karen King (Dennis, deceased), Lynette Krych, and Bryan Krych (Ann Marie). Grandmother of Brendan and Kirsten. Sister of the late Chuck and Ronald Blatnik. Dear Aunt. Visitation was at Fortuna Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery. 

Maria Kuharich, 94 years old, passed away on Nov. 25, 2025. Maria was born on Sept. 28, 1931, in Slovenia. She legally immigrated to the USA in 1965, settling in the Collinwood area of Cleveland, before moving to Euclid and then to Willoughby Hills in 1978. Maria loved to cook and bake traditional Slovenian food, gardening, and spending time with grandchildren and family. Wife of the late Albin. Mother of Silvan (Theresa) and Nevia Dininny. Grandmother of Elissa Kuharich, Nathan Kuharich, and Andrew Denk. Sister of the late Johana Skufsa, Pepca Dremel and Anica Bonifer. Daughter of the late Jose and Evana Novak. Family and friends were received at Latek & Rybicki Funeral Home. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Noel Church followed by interment at All Souls Cemetery. All arrangements were handled by Golub Funeral Home. 

Arthur Anthony Mauser IV, 44 years old, passed away after bravely fighting a battle with brain cancer. He was born Feb. 22, 1981. Artie is a graduate of Aurora High School, John Carroll University, and the University of Melbourne, where he earned a master’s in international business. In high school, he was a state finalist in wrestling and earned “All-American” honors at John Carroll University. Artie has resided in many places, including Ohio, Japan, Australia, India, Austin, TX, and New Jersey. Husband of the late Ashita (nee Shah). He was also preceded in death by his mother, Janet, and his father and stepmother, Arthur and Judy. Father of Amyra Kay Mauser; and friends and caregivers, Kristen Kolar, Atul Shah, and Ashil Shah, Ryan and Cheryl Ficco, Brian Stucky, Scott Miller, Dave Lance, and Josh Stucky. The memorial service was held at Billow Fairlawn Chapel. 

Sister Mary Stefana Osredkar, Sister of Notre Dame (SND), 80 years old, passed away Dec. 7, 2025. Sister Mary was born in Slovenia on Dec. 16, 1944. Daughter of the late Anton and Marijana (nee Bogataj) Osredkar. Preceded in death by siblings Antonia, Mariann Vegel (Anton, deceased), and Katarina Urbancic (Stefan, deceased). Sister Mary Stefana devoted her life to the care of her SND sisters, parishioners, and students at St. Joseph, Amherst. For 30+ years, she ministered in food service at the provincial center and other large SND convents. Sister was kind, compassionate and a wise listener. Visits to the sick and elderly in the parish were treasured by those who came to know her simple goodness. Sister Mary Stefana is survived by siblings Florian (Patricia), Ursula Wein (Robert), Anton (Patricia, deceased), and Anne Grikepelis (Thomas). Aunt, great aunt, and cousin of many.  She shared her life with the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame for 59 years. Mass of Christian Burial was at the Sisters of Notre Dame Center, Chardon, OH. All arrangements were handled by DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home.

Veronica Frances Petric, 76 years old. Veronica “Vee” was born on Nov. 29, 1948, the daughter of the late John and Mary (nee Novak). She was raised in the north Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland. Vee was the fifth of six children: Major John A. Petric, (deceased, Vietnam War), Linda), Mary Joyce Buchanan (John, deceased), Barbara Kuzma (Edward), the late Timothy (Mary), and Rudy. Aunt and great aunt of many.  Veronica leaves behind many lifelong friends: Dr. Corine Yee, Kathy Mayer, Carolyn Unitas Evers, Mary Beesing, Debi Gamber, and Elaine Minch. Veronica graduated from, St. Mary’s Elementary School, Regina High School, Class of 1966, and the University of Dayton, Class of 1970.  She then taught second and third grade at Christ the King School and then had a long career and retirement from Medical Mutual of Ohio, where she was an underwriter and actuarial analyst, among other positions over her career. She was a caretaker of her parents for many years. Member, St. Mary of the Assumption and Holy Cross Parishes. Member also of St. Mary Altar Society, St. Mary’s choir, and KSKJ. Eucharistic Minister for many years. She loved her Slovenian heritage and gave generously to many organizations and St. Mary Parish. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Holmes Avenue.

Richard Joseph Regovich, 58 years old, passed away on Nov. 26, 2025. Rich was born on July 3, 1967, the son of Ann and the late Stephen Regovich. He was elected 81st Commissioner of Lake County in 2022. He was elected to the city council and then mayor, of Willowick, Ohio.  Founder of Willowick Hearts and Hammers, volunteers who assisted homeowners with essential home repairs. He was a plumber by trade. Husband of Lynn (nee Zito). Father of Brian Michael (Natalie), Elizabeth Ann (Mason) Regovich, and Michael (Lisa) Wallen. Grandfather of Mila and Liam Wallen. Sibling of Steve (Sharon), Dan (Roni), Ed (Erin), Tom (Cory), and the late Michael. Uncle of many. Family and friends were received at Jeff Monreal Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mary Magdalene Church. A private burial will be held at a later date at Mentor Cemetery.

Steven P. Sabath, 84 years old, passed away on Nov. 28, 2025. Steve was born on Feb. 17, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Euclid High School, Class of 1959. He first attended The Ohio State University and then graduated from John Carroll University. Husband of the late Janet (nee Lignetta). Father of Steve (Sherry) Sabath, Lori (Dave) Bastian, Rick (Susan) Sabath, Amy Sabath, and Lisa Sabath. Grandfather of Jessica (Mike), Tyler (Ashley), Zach, Gavin, Ali, Joey (Ashley), Stephen, Nick, Evan, Ellie, Sara, and Stella; and great-grandfather of Brooks, Hudson, and Henry; and brother of Dick (Stephanie) Sabath. Steve loved sailing and fishing. He began his work career at ATSCO (Air Tool Service Company) as a purchasing agent and, through dedication and leadership, worked his way through the company to eventually become its owner and President. Also preceded in death by his grandson, Connor; his parents, John and Stella Sabath; and his brother, Tom Sabath. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Gabriel Church, where viewing was held one hour before the funeral Mass. The interment was at All Souls Cemetery. 

Douglas Joseph Sheliga, 82 years old, passed away on Dec. 1, 2025. Doug was born on Aug. 19, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Joseph E. and Emilia Sheliga (nee Paules), both deceased. Husband of Carol (nee Kintz) and husband of Michelle (nee Stewart). Father of Terri, Doug, Amy, and Shawn. Grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of three. Doug grew up in the St. Clair Avenue neighborhood. Sibling of Penny and Joe (Cookie). Doug completed a correspondence course in radio and TV repair while still in high school, a lifelong fascination with engineering and technology. He studied at Case Institute of Technology and earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Cleveland State University.  He became a licensed Professional Engineer and the founder of Sheliga Electric Company. His work in vacuum-tube computers and electrical systems was ahead of its time, and he copyrighted a computer program that showed the inner workings of computation. Doug also had a career with the Illuminating Company.  He “officially” retired at 49 years old but continued to provide consulting, authoring a book titled The Organization of Life. Longtime member, St. Patrick Parish. Involved in Sea Explorer and an adult advisor, and Zoning Commissioner in Hambden, Ohio. Member of Racoon County Ramblers, and he enjoyed polka music and dancing. A graveside service was held at All Souls Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to DeJohn Funeral Home, Chardon, Ohio.  

Angeline F. Sparks (nee Spada), 103 years old, passed away on Nov. 21, 2025. Wife of the late Harry. Sister of Mollie Occino (deceased), Frank Spada (deceased), Leona Spada (deceased), and Lorraine Smith. Aunt and great aunt of many. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at Immaculate Conception Church, Willoughby, Ohio. Entombment was at All Souls Cemetery. Family and friends were received at Brickman Funeral Home. 

Sister Mary Sterle, OSU (formerly Sister Mary Christopher) was born in 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Andrew and Frances (nee Ban-Brodnick), who were of Slovenian heritage and instilled in Sister Mary a love of that lineage.  Sibling of the late Stanley. She passed away on Nov. 27, 2025. Survived by nieces and nephews. After her education at St. John’s College, Sister Mary taught at nine different schools over 47 years.  Following her ministry in the education of young people, she served as moderator of sodality, pre-school teacher, tutor, and service in the Ursuline Gift Shop. Sister’s final ministry was in the Apostolate of Prayer for the Church and the world. Sister Mary Sterle’s funeral liturgy was at Regina Health Center, followed by interment at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon. All arrangements were made by DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home. 

James A. Videtic, 83 years old, passed away on Dec. 10, 2025. He was born May 1, 1942. Husband of Wendy (nee Olsieski). Father of James J., Jeannine Videtic (fiancé John Sandy, Jr.), and the late Jill Videtic (Anthony DeBaltzo). Grandfather of Julia Janiak, Tristan Negrelli, and Aria Negrelli. Son of the late Edward and Lillian (nee Bone); Brother of Edward and Robert (Karen). Friend of many. Veteran, U.S. Navy. He graduated from Eastlake North High School and went on to become an electronic technician at Bailey. Prayers of Christian Burial and visitation of family and friends were at DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home. 

National / International Deaths

Nichola “Nicki” Louise Blowers (nee Todorovich), 63 years old, passed away, Nov. 26, 2025. Nicki was born on Apr. 1, 1962, in Joliet, IL. She stepped into a caretaker role for her two younger siblings after their parents passed, dedicating her young adult years to supporting her family. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois State University and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Roosevelt University in Directing. Over 36 years, Nicki was at Joliet Junior College, directing and makeup to set building, house management, and teaching. Member, St. Joseph Parish (Joliet, Il, the Slovenian parish there), volunteering on committees, singing, and active in-service roles at Mass. Member, Slovenian Union of America. She was named SUA Woman of the Year in 2010. Member, Moose Lodge. Member, Board of Directors at the Curtain Call Theatre, Mokena, IL. Survived by her brother, Richard “Dan” Todorovich Jr; daughters Amanda (Matthew) Zarobsky (nee Blowers), and Sarah Blowers. Grandmother of Dorothy Zarobsky. Sister-in-law of Mark Ferencik. Nicki is preceded in death by parents Dorothy Todorovich (nee Jonish) and Richard Todorovich Sr.; her sister Nancy Ferencik (nee Todorovich) and her husband Edmund R Blowers. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Joseph Church with private interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Larry Crainich, 83 years old, passed away on Nov. 26, 2025.  Larry was born in Slovenia, Primorska Region, near the Italian border, in 1942. He immigrated to the USA with his family when he was eight years old. His mother, Stefania, passed away when he was three years old. His father, Joseph, and older siblings Robert and Brigida, along with stepmother Maria and her children, immigrated to Bridgeport, CT. Larry graduated from Bullard Havens Technical School in 1961. His field of study was Tool & Die. He went on to work and support the Tool Making Trades at various manufacturers (Fairfield Tool & Die, Bridgeport Tool & Die and Lacey Manufacturing) in Tool Design/Drafting. Larry considered education integral to success and was a voracious reader, continually learning all his life. In 1971, Larry founded the Design Standards Corporation (DSC). In 1980, Larry acquired Vicon Tool, which allowed DSC to design and build tools for metal stampings, which led to production manufacturing. DSC became a reliable vendor and service provider to the medical device industry. Larry Crainich, leading DSC, allowed for technological innovations of the medical device industry, the advent of laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgeries, to wristed/steerable devices, and ultimately instrumentation utilized in conjunction with surgical robotic platforms. He contributed to 163 U.S. Patents and authored 131 articles “Metal Stampings By Design” for the industry publication Metal Forming from 1989-2000. He was also sought out as an industry expert for speaking engagements across the USA and was invited to Singapore and Bangkok. Larry was featured in an article for the Harvard Business Review- April 2004, “A Network of Invention.” He enjoyed the outdoors: skiing, biking, hiking, and playing tennis. He is survived by his wife, Dianne. Father of Eric & Paul (their mother Annemarie) and their spouses Andrea & Janet; and grandchildren Nadia, Olivia, Hugo, Aoife, Oscar and Oliver. Uncle Thomas Jeliffe, fiancée Nika, son Charlie and his niece Mary and her children, Allie and Leo. His sister Brigida, and her children Stefan and Heidi and his brother Robert’s children Jim, Matt, Stefania, Michael & Jason. He is pre-deceased by his stepbrother Luciano and stepsisters Adelle and Josephine. A memorial event will occur in 2026.

Margaret M. Louch (nee Schukle), 89 years old, passed away Nov. 15, 2025 in Joliet, IL. Margaret was born Sept. 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Clarence and Marian (nee Schmidt) Shukle. Margaret graduated from St. Francis Academy, Class of 1954. She was employed at the Will County Recorder of Deeds office for 20+ years prior to retiring. For more than 25 years, she gave her time to the Rialto Square Theatre. Volunteer at Crest Hill Woman’s Civic League and Republican Election Judge. Member, St. Anne Council of Catholic Women, honored as Woman of the Year in 1997. Life member, Chaney/Monge PTA. Member, Lockport Township Young Timers and lifelong member, Slovenian Union of America, formerly the Slovenian Woman’s Union. Wife of the late James L. Mother of Joseph Sr., James (Audrey), Jr., Carolyn (Chuck) Willard, and Annette (Brian) Parker. Grandmother of six and great grandmother of one. Sister of Carol (late Fred) Hewitt.  Also preceded in death by her grandson, Benjamin Louch; her parents; and sister, Claire Wagner. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Andrej Marinc, 95 years old, former executive in the Slovenian Communist Party, passed away in the fall 2025. He was born in Celje, Slovenia in 1930. He graduated in agronomy and joined the Communist Party of Slovenia, later the League of Communists of Slovenia, in 1947. In 1968, he was the Secretary of the Central Committee (CK) of the ZKS. From Nov. 1972 to May 1978, he was the President of the Executive Council of the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. He succeeded Stane Kavčič, a die-hard Communist, as head of government, who was forced to resign. From 1982 and 1986, he was president of the Central Committee of the Slovenian Communist Party, where he “coronated” his successor, Milan Kučan. He remained in politics until 1990, seeing the handwriting on the wall that the SCP would collapse. He was the first Slovenian who was not of the initial Partisans in Slovenia. He is also known as being the main individual who pushed for a nuclear plant in Krsko, Slovenia, without realizing all the possible outcomes for this source of energy, negative as well as positive. Despite being viewed as a more “liberal” Communist, he remained committed to the “Party,” ruling all aspects of life in Slovenia, including horrid torture, arrests, and executions of thousands of Slovenians who were not Communists. He disavowed the frequent slogan against the SCP: you “pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.”  

Josephine ‘Josie’ A. Seglund, 98 years old, Munising, MI., passed away Nov. 28, 2025, at Munising Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Josie was born in Forest Lake, MI., daughter of the late Joseph and Johanna (nee Tarc) Kraus. She grew up on the family farm. She played various instruments and sang with her sister at the Slovenian Hall in Traunik, MI.  She graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School, Class of 1945. Member, American Legion Auxiliary and of Sacred Heart Church. She was a skilled baker, making potica for family members and other Slovenian baked delicacies. Wife of the late Richard. Mother of Bruce (Connie), Kathi (Gordon Mullholland) Seglund, and Jan Seglund. Grandmother of Jennifer (Darren) Miner, Nicole (Jeff) Cunningham, and Jake Miklos; and great-grandmother of Alisyn, Drew, Daxton, Josie, and Justin. Preceded in death by her sister Mary Starzyk. Memorial funeral Mass and interment in the spring of 2026. 

Joseph “Joze” Vegel, 94 years old, most recently a resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Nov. 23, 2025. Joze was born on Apr. 24, 1931, in the Republic of Slovenia. Husband of Marija “Mimi.” Father of Jožica (Veljko) and Bernardka. Grandfather of Kati (Franci) and Rob (Katie); and great-grandfather of Franci, Aleks, and Sophia. Brother of Stanko. Uncle of 25 nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Janez and Marija, and siblings, Tone, Ivan, Viktor, Rezka, Micka, Franci, and Lozje. Joze was known as a master cobbler. His artistry and meticulous handwork were unique, especially in crafting custom boots for horseback riding.  He was also blessed with a warm tenor voice, singing as a second tenor in choirs. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church (Collinwood) and sang in the choir there as well as a singer in the mixed singing society, Korotan. Family and friends were received at Tezak Funeral Home, Joliet, IL. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Mary’s Slovenian Catholic Mission, followed by graveside burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
